The time I had in Carrizo Plains shooting this rabbit was a great experience. This is because it is so peaceful out there, and you can really connect with your mind. Mike is a guide that knows some of the secrets of the outdoors. This made the hunt go smoothly. He can name almost every animal I point out. Animal identification makes me more comfortable in the environment and overall appreciate the hunt more. Mike’s hunting trips are more than just a hunt because you learn about yourself when you are hiking around finding an animal like a rabbit. It is a bonus to find the elk out there too because sometimes they leave only tracks behind. I experienced all of this on the rabbit hunt. But you also get to shoot an animal, and for a reason I can’t explain this creates a good time. I don’t think it is the killing. It is probably the whole experience like how menudo tastes better than cow stomach because it is a mix of all the different ingredients of the soup. I think finding and eating a rabbit is a satisfying event because in the off chance the truck breaks down in the middle of the plains, and I am hungry I’m pretty sure I can find a rabbit and make dinner out of it.
In this hunt I also had a great opportunity of shooting a rabbit, not to mention all the great supplies and food. My favorite is the quick and easy freeze dried food that comes with every hunt mac and cheese. Mike brings this snack and other tasty supplies so your belly doesn’t grumble after the hike. There were many great views like the setting sun behind the mountains and a herd of elk near the campsite. In the end Mike offers not only a great hunt, but also a great experience I’ll always remember.
